Do you need a second photographer for your wedding? Well, maybe. But maybe not! There’s a few things to consider, but these are the main two things you need to think about:
If you’ve got a big wedding with over 150 guests, then I would definitely consider it. When a wedding creeps over 100 guests, getting around everyone and ensuring I’ve got a good variety of candid shots of as many guests as possible can get a little trickier. Group shots can take a little longer as well. In general, everything is just a bit bigger and takes a little longer when it comes to things involving your guests. It’s not essential to have a second photographer if you have a lot of guests, but it’s definitely worth considering.
What’s important to you in your pics? Do you want both of you to have a photographer before the ceremony covering prep? Do you want lots of candid shots of guests? Do you want lots of group shots? Do you just want loads more pics in general? There’s no right or wrong answer to any of these, but one photographer can only be in one place at a time! So if you want you AND your partner to have prep covered in full before the ceremony, you’ll want two photographers (if you’re getting ready at the same venue then it should be fine to bounce between you both! But check with your photographer first). If you’re having lots of group shots, your photographer will spend a long time grabbing those snaps, most likely whilst your other guests are hanging out and enjoying the canapés, so a second photographer can be with them, snapping loads of candid shots and documenting everything that’s going on over there. And in general, two photographers=more photos. You’ll have more angles covered, more moments captured, and the story of your day will be that little bit more complete.
There’s no right or wrong, but it’s definitely worth considering. If you’re still not sure, just reach out and ask for more info!
